Air Conditioner Mistakes to Avoid

When the summer sun is heating things up across Florida, it is a relief to know you have a cool and comfortable home where you can escape. A well-functioning system is a necessity!

Prevent a breakdown this summer and avoid these common air-conditioning mistakes…

From Best Home Services®

Mistake #1: Not Changing The Air Filter

You should, at the least, replace your HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) filter every three months – or more frequently if you have pets! In Florida, we recommend swapping them out monthly because of our excessive humidity and allergens.

A dirty filter will adversely affect the efficiency of your unit, increase energy costs, and could result in future breakdowns.

Mistake #2: Ignoring Red Flags

We get it…life is busy, and calling in a technician is not always convenient. But, if you ignore warning signs such as leaking, loud noises, or increased energy bills, you can risk damaging the unit and the possibility of costly repairs.

Repairs typically cost less when issues are dealt with proactively through preventative maintenance. Do not put off calling a specialist for urgent repairs until your air conditioner breaks down. We recommend scheduling preventive maintenance every 4-6 months.

Don’t ignore red flags! Schedule preventive maintenance to ensure that your AC system runs smoothly and efficiently all Summer long!

Mistake #3: Not Having The Right-size Unit

Buying a unit that is the correct size for your home depends on your home’s space, the height of the ceilings, and other factors.

Before choosing a new unit, it is wise to consult an HVAC professional to ensure that your unit is the right size. AC units that are too small or too large could lead to inefficiencies.

Mistake #4: Adjusting The Thermostat

When it is swelteringly hot outside, it is natural to want to adjust the thermostat to cool things down. There are two issues with doing so:

  • You may turn it down much lower than necessary.
  • You may forget to return it to a reasonable setting.

Avoid this problem and install a programmable or “smart” thermostat. This allows you to maintain consistent temperatures in your home without constantly controlling the thermostat.

Stop adjusting that thermostat and call the pros at Best Home Services to install a smart thermostat today, (844) 921-2833!
